Principle Focus: To teach and instruct in the ways of the Lord
Team Member Charisms: Encouragement, Evangelism, Knowledge, Pastoring, Teaching
Patron Saint: St. Anthony of Padua
Definition and Responsibilities:
In the Great Commission, Jesus commands his disciples to teach. Teaching is foundational to our interactions with each other and Jesus taught his disciples unceasingly – sometimes formally and sometimes through his actions. The members of this team are responsible for teaching our parishioners not only the rudiments of our faith, but also how to make our faith come alive in our lives. Every teacher of religion, theology, catechism, etc. needs to be a disciple. Every teacher and all supporting materials will be evaluated to ensure kerygma, scripture and the personality of Jesus Christ are front and center.
With regards to welcoming our faithful into the full expression of our faith, great care will be taken by this ministry towards sacramental preparation. While the role of teaching is important for our intellectual development, sacramental preparedness involves our total selves. The Teaching Ministry becomes a useful instrument of the Holy Spirit by preparing His people to receive the fullness of God’s grace into their lives through the glory of our sacraments.
