Principle Focus: To seek the least of these
Team Member Charisms: Encouragement, Evangelism, Giving, Mercy, Missionary, Public Tongues
Patron Saint: St. Katherine Drexel
Definition and Responsibilities:
Just as Jesus engaged the wider culture around him so must we. We see how Jesus crossed every available cultural barrier to announce and practice the Kingdom. We see how Jesus was offering an alternative to the dominant cultural and religious options in his world. And we reach out to those around us with this in mind. Our foundational outreach focus takes it lead from Matthew 25. Jesus challenges us to go to six places.
(1) We seek those who are hungry and we give them food.
(2) We seek those who are thirsty and we give them drink.
(3) We seek the stranger and we welcome them.
(4) We seek those that are naked and we clothe them.
(5) We seek the sick and we care for them.
(6) And we go to the prisoner.
Before we consider any further expansion in our outreach activities, we must ensure these six fundamental areas of need are ministered to. By narrowing our parish focus to where Jesus said to go, the Outreach Ministry can assign a depth of resources and help us to live the challenge Christ put before us, ‘Truly, I say to you, as you did it to one of the least of these my brethren, you did it to me.’ Great care will be taken to move the emphasis from one of anonymous giving to creating opportunities for personal connection.
