Principle Focus: To gather in friendship, sharing our lives in community
Team Member Charisms: Encouragement, Evangelism, Giving, Hospitality, Pastoring
Patron Saint: St. Francis of Assisi
Definition and Responsibilities:
The wedding at Cana, dining with Pharisees and outcasts, visiting with Lazarus, the Last Supper, grilling fish on the seashore – Jesus consistently gathered around his friends in fellowship. He sat with them over meals. He went to people’s homes. He talked, he laughed and he mourned with those he was close to. He welcomed those around Him into his friendship and was welcomed in return by those who came to know Him. The Fellowship Ministry is responsible for enabling the warmth, security and sharing of Christian friendship gatherings. Just as the Trinity is the ultimate expression of community, so to the Fellowship Ministry is dedicated to bringing the parish into community.
This expression of community will be close and intimate (i.e. base communities) as well as larger and welcoming (i.e. parish-wide events). Just as Jesus had fellowship with small groups, he also is in fellowship with his whole church and all of creation. The Fellowship Ministry is tasked with reminding us of the need to be in deeply personal connections with others while also being part of a larger Church that includes everyone – allowing us to unify us as one community in Christ.
